I also appreciate that cassette because no song immediately follows Grantchester Meadows.Could it be Ron Geesin I think hes Scottish but I have never eard im spik.
If Several Species was a four track recording (I think it was) there was also a fair bit of bouncing down going on as well. As for the Scottish Rant and Ron Geesin, Im not sure if Geesin was yet part of the Floyd scene at the time of this track- by all accounts it was Waters who did the rant, though why he said thank you at the end (or who he was thanking) only he knows, Im sure. In the interest of full disclosure, before I actually heard Several Species -knowing it was a solo piece- I was fully expecting a bass solo, god help us all Boy did I get a surprise. Stupid, eh Same deal for Atom Heart Mother owned it for years and years and have never listened to it. Not a big fan of the live disc from this one, they performed far better versions of all 4 of those songs by late 1970 and 1971. Just like the original album, my cassette started with the live version of Astronomy Domine. ![]() This is how it played: Side A: Astronomy Domine; The Narrow Way; Grantchester Meadows. Side B: Several Species.; Sysyphus; The Grand Viziers Garden Party. I still like to hear Ummagumma in that order, without the three other live songs. The Several Species insanity doesnt start until the tape is flipped over. The album and CD have no pause between those tracks, and IMO that detracts from the 7 minutes of coolness that is Grantchester Meadows. Grantchester is a pungent snapshot of the lost Cambridge of early Floyd and Nick Drake. I couldnt imagine having that split up I always think of that transition as foreshadowing the Floyd-style transitions between each song on Dark Side (no small accomplishment, that) and beyond thru the Wall and the Waters solo albums.
